Directing the Evolution of Karma's Culture
This post is displayed to new members before they publish their first contribution.
Todo: shitty illustrations demonstrating how tough it is to set a bar of kindness, and how we're going to figure out how to do it.
Karma is a collaborative self-education platform. Its mission is to accelerate the emergence of socially valuable ideas.
I would like for Karma to remain increasingly:
- Socially impactful (at the micro and macro levels)
- Sensitive to the difference between fact and opinion
- Sensitive to the feelings of others
- Receptive to new ideas and constructive criticism
To facilitate this trend, contributions made by new members may not appear on the Karma.fm homepage. New member posts are queued and curated against this list of traits. If we* feel that the contribution doesn't quite align with these traits, we'll leave a temporary comment with some constructive criticism to help you calibrate accordingly before publishing to the homepage again.
This is not an attempt to suppress free speech; it's an attempt to cultivate a collective growth mindset. Please forgive the inevitable fumbles.
[*] - "we" is currently @eve, but if/when Karma grows, a moderation team will likely be formed.
